On 25 May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation is implemented, intending equal rules for personal data protection throughout the European Union (EU); In Latvia, the application of regulation will be dictated by the Personal Data Processing law.

RTU Riga Business School is an institution of higher education which provides bachelor and master level studies as well as English language training and professional management courses. In addition RBS provides information services about studies in the United States of America. To fulfil these obligations, RBS collects and processes personal information of potential and existing students, their parents; alumni; potential, existing and previous attendees of courses; attendees and applicants for information events and persons representing partner organizations and potential and existing employers.

While processing personal data, RBS will abide by existing national legislation, EU regulation (e.g. General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR) and generally accepted confidentiality norms. RBS will not share personal data with third parties (unless stipulated by law or have obtained specific consent) and will put maximum effort in securing data storage.

In general, upon a person’s request RBS will:

1. Provide information RBS has about the person;

2. Stop contacting the person with information, the person has refused to accept. This does not include information exchange related to the fulfilment of existing agreements and important information regarding obtained degrees and certificates and completed courses;

3. Update or Delete the person’s personal information unless the information storage is stipulated by law and/or related to the courses and study programs completed at RBS and its partner institutions. RBS will also store the minimum information necessary to confirm the identity of the person eligible to obtain information about a certificate, degree and completed course.

RBS uses personal data in the following ways:

a) Administrative use to deliver services and follow through on performing contracts, including issuing invoices.
For the aforementioned purpose, at least the following data would be necessary and stored: Person’s name, surname (including changes), personal I.D. number, address, bank account number, payments made, telephone and email address.

b) Information distribution about RBS programs, courses, services, offers.
For the aforementioned purpose, some or all of the following data is necessary and stored: Person’s name, surname, address, telephone and email address.

c) Academic use to record and monitor a person’s study progress
For the aforementioned purposes, some or all of the following data will be stored and processed: Person’s name, surname, obtained degrees, completed courses and grades at RBS and other institutions;

d) Quality improvements and program development of RBS services.
For the aforementioned purpose, some or all of the following data could be stored and processed: Person’s name, surname, address, telephone and email address, and career progression.

e) Recruitment of employees and faculty
For the aforementioned purpose, at least the following data could be necessary and stored: person’s name, surname, address, telephone and email address, previous education and skills, career progression and interests
